I delivered a keynote address today at a virtual innovation summit in Belgium today. On my heart: Black girls. Specifically, Darnella Frazier, and Ma'Khia Bryant. I spoke about both of you today, about your leadership or the times your leaders failed you. I wear black today knowing there's much to mourn, and much more to reimagine. Thank you to @kuleuven for the invitation to speak during this time. Here’s an excerpt from my keynote. It’s honestly a strange time. Tomorrow afternoon, I have big, beautiful and exciting news to share. It's odd to have to hold space for so many competing realities but I suppose that's the reality of life. Thanks for doin life - in all the ups and downs - virtually with me y'all. xo
I pass this mural every time I leave my office. Tonight was the first day I noticed the sticker above it: “justice?” I literally just took this photo. And, honestly, tonight what I feel is anger. I’ve learned a lot about grief in the last year, and I know it’s not always linear. I know working in a newsroom, I often feel things at different times than the public. But I want to leave this sole thought here tonight: this should have never happened. Ever. As I watched the verdict delivered — guilty on all counts — as we prepared to go live and I looked at my notes, which included the question: “was justice served?” I’m mindful that so long as the letters R.I.P. remain in front of George Floyd’s name... I’d venture to say that the question mark after justice.. justice? remains too.
hint: my next interview involves school buses (like, a lot of them)
so this happened
In conversation with actor Daniel Wu (@thatdanielwu) about representation in Hollywood and what the public can do to #StopAAPIHate. #KnowThis
