Wooow. What do I even say! I woke up this morning so grateful for the opportunity to moderate the *first* ever intergenerational townhall discussion at the @unitednations #YouthClimateSummit. It was so refreshing to hear young people ask world leaders direct and pointed questions about #fossilfuels, competing climate interests and youth involvement in the #climatecrisis. Activists in the room of nearly 700 at one point even erupting into a song around the entire hall, during the 1.5hr discussion. . . . The townhall included the #UN Deputy Secretary General, @unicef Youth Advocate, President of the #MarshallIslands, President of #Austria, Gov. @jayinslee, UN Chair of Elders / former president of #Ireland, President of the Interparliamentary Union / #Mexico Member of Parliament, and the High Commissioner on #HumanRights. Plus, our powerhouse HQ + field team interviewed Olympians, heads of state and activists throughout the day (you can see those pieces soon!). . . . Yesterday was a true feat. It was important to rep my roots at such a historic occasion, and I was delighted to wear a custom Ghanaian necklace, handmade by a family friend. 😊 This month/week has been intense. So much to do and cover! Yesterday and the #climateweek ahead are a reminder that, around the globe, young people are genuinely concerned about what will be left of the world they are set to inherit in decades to come. . . . Grateful for the opportunity to initiate this partnership between @nowthisnews and the @UN. May the conversations and questions continue! Jay Winuk lost his brother on 9/11. Glenn, his younger brother, was a volunteer firefighter who headed into the South tower to rescue those trapped. Since the loss of his brother, Winuk has worked with a non-profit he started, MyGoodDeed, to reclaim 9/11 as a day of service. He said: “We didn’t want future generations to have only the perception of 9/11 as the attacks... We felt like you know they need to learn and understand. About the other side of 9/11 the way good people over the world came together and focused on our common humanity.” It was a gift to speak with and hear from Jay. || #911 #nowthis #knowthis

weekend wandering = 🎢 • • • one of the things i’m hoping / planning for this year is to explore NY. i debated visiting all roughly 389 stops on the NY subway line but, let’s be real, there are 365 days in a year. so, instead of stops, the scope narrowed — and this year I’d like to get to know some notable (and underrated) stops in the five boroughs of New York. the first stop was last weekend: Coney Island!
